Canada Needs Our Lady
“Beloved brothers, I urge you to consider how much we are indebted to the blessed Mother of God, and what thanks we owe her, after God, for such a great benefit.
“For this Body of Christ that she begot and bore in her womb, that she wrapped in swaddling clothes, that she nourished with her milk with such maternal solicitude, is this same Body that we receive from the altar; it is his Blood that we drink in the sacrament of our redemption.
“…There is no human word that can worthily praise her from whom the Mediator between God and man took his flesh. …since it was she who prepared for us from her chaste womb the immaculate flesh that nourishes souls.” (A Moment with Mary).
Let me share just one of the many miracles recorded in the daily reflection A Moment with Mary.
In December 2017, I was…allowed into a hospital delivery room by the doctor who was to deliver our granddaughter…
The doctor was putting all of his concentration into delivering a baby that for some reason was in danger. He finally succeeded. …I [had] assailed Heaven with my prayers, especially the Mother of God, so she would come to the rescue.
Right after the birth, the doctor, whom I had never met, came to me and said, pointing to my Rosary, "This is what saved the baby.” Without saying anything else, he left the delivery room. I thanked the Lord and Mary for one of the greatest gifts God gives us: children!
Our Lady Mary first made an apparition in North America at Tepeyac, in Mexico, to Juan Diego. Mary came to convert the Aztec people who had been practising human sacrifice.
Since then, the Virgin of Guadalupe has been proclaimed "Queen of Mexico," "Patroness of the Americas," "Empress of Latin America" and "Protectress of Unborn Children."
More recently I have become aware of a movement to bring Canada back to God. Canada Needs Our Lady is working for the Defence of Christian Civilization to win the hearts and minds of Canadians for Mary.
“Let's pray Canada back to God... One Holy Rosary at a time” is their objective. Since 2022 Rosary Ralies have been led across Canada reaching 1000 in 2025 and projecting 1500 in 2026.
I wish to mention two champions of Our Lady and proponents of the Holy Rosary. The first is Father Patrick Peyton who became known as the Rosary Priest. In 1938 he was diagnosed with advanced Tuberculosis, an incurable disease at the time.
His sister suggested he turn to Blessed Mother for help. He consecrated himself to Mary and began praying the Rosary. He was miraculously cured and dedicated his life to promoting the Rosary.
Peyton coined the phrase "the family that prays together stays together." He became one of the pioneering television evangelists and promoted the rosary until his death in 1992.
The second is Padre Pio, Saint Pius of Pietrelcina. Pio was blessed with the stigmata (wounds of Christ) and prophecy. He heard the confession of Father Karol Wojtyla (later Pope John Paul II) and predicted he would ascend to the highest position in the Church.
Questioned about the Blessed Virgin Mary visiting him, he replied, “You should rather ask if she ever leaves my cell.”
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons in the world. God can heal broken hearts and alleviate suffering through a sincere prayer. Our national anthem echoes our prayer: God keep our land, glorious and free.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
