Guardian Angels revisited
An anonymous reader of liveaboutaction.com wanted to share a story of her guardian angel experience. She had entered the hospital in 1994 with pain which later resulted in surgery. Though the surgery was successful, she quickly began having an allergic reaction to the morphine she was given. Doctors rushed to help, but things were going from bad to worse.
The woman says that she tried to get rest, but at 2:45 am woke up and felt a person standing next to her. She asked the girl, who was reading a Bible, what she was doing. The angel then said, "I was sent here to make sure you'd be alright. You are going to be fine. Now you should get some rest and go back to sleep." The next morning, the reader says she was back to health. What an incredible visit.
In another story, in 1998, Luke was diagnosed with bone cancer at the tender age of eight. He came down with an infection and was hospitalized. One evening, Luke's mother was sitting at his bedside quietly praying as he slept. A nurse came into the room to check Luke's temperature, but his mother noted something rather peculiar about her.
The nurse was wearing an old-fashioned uniform of the type that would have been common thirty years earlier, in the 1960s. The nurse noticed that Luke's mother had a Bible by the side of his bed. She said that she was a Christian, too, and said she would pray for Luke's healing.
Luke’s infection disappeared. Later all trace of cancer was gone. His mom believes this nurse could have been a guardian angel coming down to give them hope. (Stories About Angels).
At the personal level my experience with guardian angels in particular has led me to revisit this topic. From infancy my night prayers have included: Angel of God, my guardian dear to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this night be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
On the night of my wedding day, as my bride and I said our first night prayers together, we prayed the Angel of God prayer. Now, after fifty-seven years of marriage, it is the most consoling prayer we say as my wife, who is suffering severe cognitive decline due to dementia, settles for her sleep. I ask our guardian angels to look after us through the night, give us a good rest, and help us awake refreshed.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that until our deaths we are surrounded by the watchful eyes of our guardian angels. Angels exist and are our guides and constant companions When we are in spiritual or physical danger, we can call on their help.
One of the prayers I say for the protection of those I love is that their guardian angel will be a large and fierce presence to scare away any harm the evil one might intend, especially at night or in places of danger. So far it seems to be working.
Angels have played a significant role in how God has revealed himself to us. Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:11-20) and the conception and birth of Jesus (Luke 1:26-38). The Archangel Michael is known as the protector of the Church and the angel who will be there to escort us into heaven at the moment of death.
